Niviuk Skin 4P: A radical shift for hike & fly
Lightweight single-skin wings have already proven their worth in the mountains. The Niviuk Skin 4P takes this concept further with a completely redesigned layout. Feedback from flights launched off the K2 summit shaped its development to meet a specific need: cutting weight and pack volume without compromising flight stability. It targets mountaineers, trail runners, and climbers who need to descend quickly after steep routes. Looking for a reliable tool to reduce your pack weight at altitude? Niviuk’s technical approach deserves a close look.
Compactness and weight savings for the terrain
Starting at size 14, the wing weighs just 0.95 kg. Its reduced dimensions fit into backpacks under 30 liters. The optimized internal structure (RSD technology) combined with 22 g/m² fabric achieves this record pack size. With 39 cells and a flat aspect ratio of 4.90, the profile stays tight and predictable. Certification depends on size: size 14 carries an EN/LTF C rating, while sizes 16, 18, and 20 remain EN/LTF B. This split defines a clear operating boundary, avoiding uncertain compromises.
Direct handling and controlled landing
Inflation remains straightforward, even in light wind or on technical slopes. In flight, the Skin 4P offers intuitive control. The optimized trailing edge improves rounding and supports safer landings through progressive speed retention. Air penetration relies on a rigid structure that minimizes unnecessary deformation. Nitinol (TNT) and 3DL technologies ensure shape memory and a wrinkle-free profile, delivering consistent handling in light turbulence.
- Sizes: 14, 16, 18, 20
- Wing weight: 0.95 to 1.29 kg
- Load range: 50-80 kg (size 14) to 85-110 kg (size 20)
- Pack volume: 4.4 to 7.1 L
The Skin 4P delivers on ultra-compact performance, but its operating envelope requires discipline. Handling demands familiarity with light wings, and load management must stay strict. In the mountains, every gram matters, yet safety margins during abrupt corrections depend on pilot experience and adherence to certified limits. This is a technical wing that requires rigor, but rewards precise preparation when deployed in its intended environment.
