Frequently Asked Questions

How to choose a rescue parachute?
The primary criterion is the maximum certified all-up weight (PTV): your total equipped weight must remain below the rescue's limit. Next comes the type: classic round (simple, proven), or steerable (Rogallo/cross-type) (lower sink rate, steerable, but requires some knowledge). Also check the volume/weight for compatibility with your harness. We can help you choose the right model and install it correctly.
How often should a reserve parachute be repacked?
Repacking must be done regularly — in practice, every 6 to 12 months depending on the manufacturer and storage conditions — so that the fabric and lines remain free and the opening is reliable on the day you need it. A reserve stored folded for a long time can 'take a set' and open more slowly. Rid'Air has a reserve repacking workshop: we take care of it for you.
Does a reserve parachute also need checking?
Yes. Beyond regular repacking, a visual inspection of the canopy, lines, and bridle allows for the detection of wear or defects. It's also the ideal opportunity to check the installation in the harness and the extraction elastic. If you have any doubt about the condition of your reserve, have it checked — it's the component that must work on the first try.
