Go Through a School — No Shortcuts

I often say it: paragliding is something you learn. Not on YouTube, not with a friend who "knows what they're doing." In a real school, with a certified instructor. Here at CEM du Markstein, we've been training pilots since 1977 — it's not for nothing that it's the oldest school in France. In a 5-day introductory course, you go from the ground to your first big flight. It's the shortest and safest path.

The FFVL License and Levels

The French Free Flight Federation (FFVL) issues licenses by level: green (initiation), blue (autonomous pilot), brown (experienced pilot). My advice? Aim for the blue license before investing in your own equipment. Before that, the school lends you everything — and you have time to understand what you truly enjoy.

What's the Budget to Get Started?

For a complete new equipment set (EN-A wing + harness + rescue parachute + helmet), expect to pay between 3,500 € and 5,000 €. For used gear, you can get down to 2,000 € for good, recent equipment. At Rid'Air, we have the best market prices on new equipment, and we can also advise you on used gear — don't hesitate to call us before buying something on Leboncoin; we'll help you avoid unpleasant surprises.

Classic Beginner Mistakes

I see this regularly: buying a wing that's too high-performance 'so you don't have to buy another one in two years'. Poor judgment. A well-chosen EN-A means 200 hours of serene flying where you truly progress. An EN-B too early means stress, poorly managed ceilings, and stagnant progression. Trust yourself; the rest will come naturally.

Our Advice

Sign up for a course, fly, enjoy yourself. The equipment will come later. And when the time is right, come see us in Oderen or call us — we'll guide you towards the wing, harness, and rescue parachute that match your physique, your level, and your budget. No more, no less.
